For sure the land is enjoying a sabbath rest just now, though there are notable exceptions, like the forest fires in northern Thailand. You say that “If we don’t provide sabbath for creation, God will do so.” This raises the question for me about when it is legitimate to use this kind of language. The OT prophets used it a lot – like Joel speaking about the plague of locusts – but now we tend to blame human sin and leave God out of it, or see his judgment as purely a future event. How do you reconcile these two ways of looking at things?
